The mountain is calling, and we must go…

If I am writing here, then typically that means I must be on the road...

The WE in this case is one of my sisters (Alice) and her husband (David), not Beth and I for a change.  The MOUNTAIN mentioned above is Mt. Shasta in northern California.  And finally, the GO part is not a vacation or house sit, but a move that has been anticipated for some time now.  All things that needed to align to make this a reality, finally cooperated!

The packing, labeling of boxes, and staging for loading day, came to a head this last Wednesday and Thursday, when two big Uhaul trucks and car trailers were secured, loaded, and the goodbyes leaked out.

So what do I have to do with it?  I’m going on a road trip to Mt Shasta, California…driving one of the trucks, while Beth attends Moms Weekend activities at MSU with Drew.

Above is the nutshell and any following posts will try to fill in the blanks, but for now, we have 500 and change racked up on the Uhaul’s odometer so far, with tomorrow looming in the darkness.  Night, night…

Here are a few pics to this point.

The organization and labeling of weight and fragility were beyond my
comprehension.  I didn't get that gene!
I did get a "puzzle" gene that helped pack
two lives into one and a half 26' trucks.
All gone!
My chariot awaits.  A Ford F650!
One last check of the trucks and the inspectors head back for one last night.
The neighbors, on the other hand, are wondering when the elephants and clowns
will be arriving!  The trucks and trailers occupied a fair amount of the street.
At 7:30 Saturday morning, at least two neighbors got their view back.
"Welcome to Iowa" for a short time...
Then a directional change to the west and we ran into Nebraska...
all day, we ran into Nebraska!
A late breakfast at a truck stop just west of Lincoln, NE.  Had to park with
the big boys.
A museum traversing I-80.  The Great Platte River Road Archway,
a museum of and monument to Nebraska's and the Platte River valley's role in
westward expansion...says Google!

My Zen from the Road:  Simple...get horizontal...close your eyes.  Does wonders for red, dry eyes and returns circulation to Gluteus Maximus.
